A lovely pair of portraits of a woman in a light blue Empire dress. In the first, “Le Matin”, she holds the two-handled cup holding the coffee she has just brewed in the samovar on her table. Her cream pitcher and sugar bowl are visible, and an arrow secures her hair. In the second, “L’apres-Midi”, she sits on another chair at a different table. Her hair style has been changed, and her mirror helps guide the brush (?) she is using to apply makeup. The pair are set in identical gold-leaf frames under early glass, with their original brass hanging rings. There is some loss of pigment in the afternoon scene.
