Covered Bridge in Summer

Raymond Ingraham (American, 1896 - 1982)

A serene landscape by the Greenfield, MA artist, capturing a covered bridge in midsummer. Since Ingraham lived and painted in Western Massachusetts, it seems likely that this bridge is the Eunice Williams Covered Bridge over Green River in Greenfield. The bridge has been restored recently and bears little resemblance to the painting, but the setting and the location support this attribution (modern picture below). In any event, the painting captures the feelings of living in a small town in Franklin County, a pleasure with which we both are blessed.
