Gallery 1 - AMERICAN ART

The most prominent works displayed in this gallery were painted by Winslow Homer, George Innes, and Frederick Remington.

Those by Innes are our favorites, and standing before them is always a perfect beginning for a visit.

IMPRESSIONIST PAINTINGS

From the American wing we usually move into the Clark's largest gallery, in which are displayed many outstanding works by impressionist painters.

The spacious gallery's soft, natural lighting brings out the rich colors of these works by these famous late 19th century painters.

EUROPEAN AND AMERICAN ART

This large gallery contains works by several 19th-century Americans, but our favorites are some of the finest works by John Singer Sargent.

MANTON GALLERY FOR BRITISH ART

In 2007 the British foundation overseeing the collection of Sir Edwin Manton and Lady Manton donated works by Constable, Turner, and other important British artists to the Clark.

Many of these paintings are displayed in this intimate gallery.

Here are two of his legendary cloud studies.
