A charming brass “money house”

This whimsical brass bank was made in the form of a house, with an incised wall and stairs in front, a prominent dormer with incised window sash, attractively gabled roof ends on the sides, and a large chimney extending from the steep rooftop. This chimney is, of course, the slot into which the money goes. Said treasure is available by unscrewing the knob under the house and opening the hinged trap door.

No manufactured toy this, but rather the work of a father, perhaps, making a gift for a child by using the skills of his trade. Is this not a gift of folk art for someone in our world today?

English, 19th century
