Our Ashfield Odyssey
Part 2: First Winter -- January to May 2005 -- p. 1
The winter of 2004 - 2005 promised to be a particularly mild one. The predicted warmer temperatures allowed us to persuade Dan Hutt, our excavator of choice, to rough out the path for our proposed quarter-mile driveway. We reasoned that this would give us a head start in the spring, and that converting the roughly graded terrain to a smooth roadway would be a relatively simple matter, removing obstacles that might prevent site preparation and the construction of two planned outbuildings.
The semi-frozen ground made work difficult, but within a few weeks, we were driving to the worksite on a rough, though navigable path . . . .
at least, until it snowed!
