We returned home in late April -- mud season. Our driveway, roughed in in sub-freezing temperatures, had begun to thaw, and was now about 50 percent gravel and 50 percent water. Spring had finally arrived, but even our four-wheel drive tractor was unable to negotiate it.

But, the snow had gone, and our work could now commence.

Spring had arrived.
