Mike Skalski and his crew began early Monday morning,

making it possible for an small army of neighbors to pull objects of value

from the piles of debris.

____________________________________________________________________________

By Wednesday, all evidence of the barn above its deck had been removed.

____________________________________________________________________________

We emptied the basement in preparation for the second demolition team,

____________________________________________________________________________

headed by Henry Souza, who would remove the decking.

____________________________________________________________________________

All of the old timbers and boards would be salvaged and re-used.

____________________________________________________________________________

We had decided to build the new barn with new materials,

____________________________________________________________________________

a more economical solution for us,

____________________________________________________________________________

permitting us to design spaces that would fit our needs perfectly.

As the flooring was lifted, the huge timbers were exposed,

and then removed.

Some of the wood from our barn has already become part of two early homes in Connecticut.

Working with our contractor, we've developed a plan, which has already been converted to a virtual timber frame.

This week we address the treatment of the foundation, some of which we hope to save.

After elevations have been determined, we should soon be on our way.
