Virginia Strom Precourt’s sense of humor was every bit as refined as her art. She never was a belly-laugher but always looked for a good, gentle chuckle. And when she found an imp—a young boy delightfully holding (or maybe not holding) a grasshopper to tease his little sister, Virginia found the subject for a portrait sketch. She displayed the pencil-on-paper drawing prominently in her ground-level studio, its presence lighting up even the darkest day.
