The woods surrounding her homes in midcoast Maine and Dover, Massachusetts, were toolboxes for Virginia Strom Precourt’s imagination. She would find inspiration in the delicacy of a fiddlehead fern, as well as the patterns in bark from freshly felled trees. In “Origins”, she matched the gnarly texture of a weathered trunk against a dark night sky, using a shadow box to add a third dimension to the work. A red blood moon signals an eclipse that brings the stars in the sky into sharper focus.
