Virginia Strom Precourt often would wait for years between drawing the first sketch of a subject and beginning the final, full-sized piece. The exact dimensions of the “Nomads and the Demon Wind” pencil drawing flashes back to her days as a commercial artist, when she worked on tight deadlines without the comfort of breathing room between her initial concept and the finished work. And, in fact, she moved directly from the preliminary sketch to her final execution of “Demons”. The mid-’70s were a busy travel/research time for Virginia, and that schedule might explain her rush to creation.
