When Virginia Strom Precourt traveled, she often kept a sketchbook and a small collection of markers to capture a moment. Most often, she would take those drawings back to her studio and months—sometimes, years—later use them as starting point for a more detailed piece. But, on occasion, she would return home to her studio and immediately rework her sketches into a larger form—with a greater variety of color. What such work lacked in detail it gained in spontaneity.
