At different times in different houses, Virginia Strom Precourt worked from a ground-level studio. She did some of her best work when she could channel the light of the outdoors onto a canvas panel. She never let age get in the way of her imagination. But as she approached her 90th year, she did understand that she needed to adjust the scale of her work. This untitled abstract reflects the color palate of previous work inspired by the bright summer lights that illuminated a pond just across a dirt road from her studio in Dover, Massachusetts. To give the piece the rugged integrity of her polyfrescos, she rubbed the dry paint with the side of her hand.
