Our Ashfield Odyssey
Part 2: First Winter -- January to May 2005 -- p. 3
With the help of Dan's excavator, which was still on the site, we piled up small mountains of tree tops as well as scores of scrawny 50 to 60-foot trees and set them ablaze. The flames from some of these fires shot over one hundred feet in the air and consumed tons of waste wood -- as can be seen below in these two photos, taken less than twenty-four hours apart.
A February thaw exposed enough bare ground to enable our septic engineer to visit and plot our system.
Meanwhile, our piles of timber continued to grow.
