The north and south ends were finished quickly . . . .
just in time for the onset of Winter.
Although the first floor of the barn had been framed, we were still faced with an open foundation under our proposed shop. Knowing that winter temperatures would certainly compromise the unprotected concrete walls, we filled the hole with mulch hay for insulation, then began to cap it. We first built a large girder from end to end, supported by two cement columns.
With the girder finished, we spanned the crawl space laterally with heavy joists.
