Virginia Strom Precourt didn’t always paint in the moment. She would find a subject, sketch her, hang the pencil drawing on the wall of her studio, and wait for the context to arrive. The consternation and compassion of the young girl in “1 Corinthians 13:11” found its focus one morning with the sight of a fallen bird—taken from the sky for no understandable reason—in the woods outside her studio.
